In part 2 of this month’s Grooms’ Guide, we talk tuxes, tails and trends with leading menswear shop, Red Groomswear. Here’s everything you need to know about getting suited and booted for the big day…
Tell us about the inspiration behind Red Groomswear
Red Groomswear was established in 2004 in a bid to offer a dedicated one-stop shop, focusing entirely on wedding suit hire. Up until this point grooms would have went to their local menswear store where the suit hire section would be in a small corner of the shop or an upstairs store room.
With this fresh approach to groomswear, along with a policy of only stocking suit ranges which were exclusive to ourselves, we soon gained a reputation for offering grooms something that little bit different. This has been our ethos since the beginning and a few years ago we started manufacturing our own ‘Fine Tailoring By Red Range’, a collection of designer quality suits, which are produced in Europe by tailors who create garments for some of the world’s most luxurious brands.
What style of groom do you cater for?
We cater for a wide range of grooms of various ages from all over the province. The main thing they have in common is an appreciation for quality. All of our grooms are fashion conscious and take a lot of pride in their appearance and they want to make sure that they look every bit as good as the bride on their big day!
What trends are proving popular for 2018 and beyond?
Navy still proves to be extremely popular for 2018, with our Navy Prince of Wales and Glencloy Navy suits in high demand. We have however noticed a lot more customers looking for mix and match tailoring combing contrasting trouser and jacket combinations. There are also an increasing number of grooms wanting to have a made to measure suit created to their exact specifications, which is only fair as the bride gets to keep her dress.
Do you believe men are becoming more involved in choosing their suits and indeed the overall wedding planning experience?
Grooms have always been fairly involved when it comes to picking their suits but it’s normally the bride who gets the final say! In regards to the whole experience, it can vary massively from groom to groom. You can tell that some guys are really involved and happy to do so whereas some men are lucky if they even know the date of the wedding.
What style of suit would you recommend for a summer wedding?
A nice lightweight lounge suit would be ideal for a summer wedding, perhaps something in a light shade of grey.
And a winter wedding?
Our heavier weave of wool suits are popular in the winter months paired with a tweed waistcoat. For weddings that are taking place in that festive period between Christmas and New Year, a slim fit tuxedo is by far the most popular option!
How are grooms choosing to reflect their personal style?
Our made to measure range gives grooms the opportunity to reflect their own personal style and individuality, with a choice of over 100 different cloths, finishes and options. Finishing touches such as your names and wedding date monogramed into the lining of the jacket ensure that each groom gets a truly unique garment.
